Summer Premium Card and Memorabilia Auction Closing August 7 & 9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 8/9/2021
One of the most intelligent, respected and accomplished baseball men ever to don the knickers and stirrups, Edward Trowbridge Collins debuted for Connie Mack’s Athletics in 1906. By the time of his retirement in 1930, he had amassed a lifetime .333 BA, 3,315 hits, the 1914 AL MVP Award, and a record number of sacrifice bunts (512). Considered one of the best on-field leaders, Collins’ nickname was “Cocky” only because “Confidenty” didn't have quite the same ring to it. The graduate of Columbia, Collins moved into the Red Sox’ front office and drafted caliber players Johnny Pesky, Bobby Doerr and Ted Williams for owner Tom Yawkey. Offered here is a signed cut by Eddie Collins in what appears to have been part of an official document or contract from the Boston Red Sox. Collins signed his name “Edward Collins” under the typed “Boston American League Baseball Company” print and on a dotted line with the title “Vice President”. The cut measures approximately 4 ¼ x 1 ½ inches and Collins signed his name in black pen. This item has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (83892584).
