Edgar Mitchell was the Lunar Module Pilot for the Apollo 14 mission and the sixth man to walk on the surface of the Moon. Mitchell, along with Alan Shephard, spent 33 hours on the moon during this mission, collecting samples to bring back to Earth and performing a myriad of scientific experiments on the surface of Earth’s satellite.
This panoramic photograph shows the Apollo 14 Lunar Module in the foreground, with the surface of the moon and the empty void of space behind it. Mitchell signed the photograph in silver marker, adding the inscription “Apollo 14 LMP / February 5, 6 1971”. Mitchell also pointed out numerous features of the moon, adding the inscriptions “Triplet Craters”, “Solar Wind Collector”, “Me”, “High Gain Antenna”, and “Cone Crater”. Arrows point to the aforementioned structures and lunar features. Mitchell can be seen to the left of the High Gain Antenna. This photograph measures roughly 8 x 40 inches, and it comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (B53050).
