Edgar Renteria packed quite a bit into his 16-season Major League career. In 1996, he was the runner up for NL Rookie of the Year honors. A season later he delivered a two-out single in the 11th inning of the 7th game of the World Series to give the Florida Marlins their first World Series Championship in franchise history. He made his first of five All Star game appearances the following year in 1998. After the 1998 season Renteria was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals and the hardware started to pile up. He made the All Star team three times while playing shortstop for the Cards as well as winning three Silver Slugger Awards (2000,2002 & 2003) and two Gold Glove Awards (2002 & 2003). Presented here is a 2002 Edgar Renteria Rawlings Gold Glove Award. This coveted trophy features a gold colored Rawlings fielding glove that sits upon a high wooden base. Gold colored Rawlings baseballs flank each side of the glove. A gold colored metal plaque in the center features an illustration of Renteria and the plaque below that reads "2002 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Presented to Edgar Renteria Honoring His Selection As "The Finest in the Field!". This 2002 Gold Glove Award is identical in every regard to the one presented to Renteria. It is not uncommon for an additional award to be made on behalf of the team or the player to be used as a display piece or gifted to a friend or family member. The reason for the creation of this particular award remains unknown. What is known is that this is an awesome opportunity for someone to own one of the most recognizable awards in the game. The trophy measures approximately 17.5" long x 6.5" wide x 16" tall. Shows light wear to some of the edges on the wood base, mentioned here for accuracy, with the baseballs and glove remaining in beautiful, clean condition.
