Graded 30 GD 2 by SGC. This is a phenomenal team cabinet photo depiction of the 1888 Chicago White Stockings, produced by noted photographer Jos. Hall of Brooklyn, New York. Joseph Hall cabinets have always been held in the highest regard by advanced collectors. While all such cabinets are rare, some of the teams are much more difficult to find than others. This card of Chicago's squad is one of the few examples in private hands. The 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" portrayal features the incomparable Cap Anson during the height of his career. All of the players are identified on the mount, including the club's famous black Mascot who, ironically, is pictured directly in front of the notoriously prejudiced Cap Anson. The photograph is stunning, boasting near-perfect clarity and contrast, and a small blemish near the bottom edge does not affect any player images. The mount is intact and relatively clean, with customary wear at the corners and edges. The blank reverse exhibits a few small, superficial stains, but is unmarked. Overall, this important relic delivers extraordinary visual appeal. The cabinet's favorable appearance, coupled with its extreme significance and rarity, make the piece a tremendous potential addition to one of the hobby's most elite 19th Century collections. Good condition.
