Presented is a 31 x 36 inch poster of New York Mets legend and MLB Hall of Famer Gary Carter standing with then Vice President George H.W. Bush and Bill Shea, the namesake of Shea Stadium. Bush, a presidential hopeful at the time, developed a lasting friendship with Carter, with the two even visiting Honduras together on a goodwill mission. Later, President Bush became the first president to attend a National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony when he saw Carter inducted in 2003. President Bush signed this poster in black marker, inscribing “To Gary Carter, / my friend and a guy who epitomizes the best in baseball / with respect, George Bush”.
