Baseball in Washington, D.C., has existed since long before the Nationals set up shop in 2005. The Washington Senators, founded in 1891, were one of the first professional teams to play in D.C., existing until their dissolution in 1899. The team was owned by a pair of brothers, J. Earl and George W. Wagner, who bought the team in 1892 and presided over the ballclub for the remainder of its lifespan. The front of this album page has been signed in black fountain pen by George Wagner, who inscribed “President Natinal (sic) Ball Club of Washington D.C June 25/92” below his signature. “President Washington Club” is written above Wagner’s signature.

The reverse side of this album page has been signed by four members of the Senator’s 1924 World Series winning team. This team is not the same as the Senators that existed from 1892 to 1899 despite the similar name. The signers of this page include Allen Russell, Bennie Tate, Earl McNeely, and George Mogridge. Their signatures have been written in black fountain pen on this lightly toned album page. “Pres. N.L. and A.A.B.B.C.” has been written above the signatures. This item, which is part of the Senate Page Collection, has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (84043052).
