Presented here is an outstanding vintage baseball signed by the Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Mickey Cochrane, as well as contemporary stars Bill Shores and Jimmy Dykes. In a fantastic rarity, the signatures of Ruth and Gehrig are located on the same panel, due south of the sweet spot. Ruth’s signature appears over Gehrig’s, and the two Yankee legends have both signed this Official League Special Spalding baseball in black fountain pen.

Occupying Ruth’s customary position on the sweet spot of this baseball lies the dual signatures of Mickey Cochrane, a two-time American League MVP and the premier backstop of his day, and Jimmy Dykes, a long-serving infielder who appeared in the first two Major League Baseball All-Star Games in 1933 and 1934. Typically, Ruth would be afforded the honor of signing the sweet spot of a baseball, but the happy coincidence of Cochrane and Dyke’s signatures has created this astounding example of baseball history. The final signature, on the panel to the north of the Official League Special stamping, belongs to Bill Shores. Cochrane, Dykes, and Shores all played for the Philadelphia Athletics dynasty of 1929-1931, winning World Series in 1929 and 1930 and a third-consecutive American League pennant in 1931. “Oct 13-1930” is written in black ink above Ruth and Gehrig’s signatures, dating this baseball to five short days after the Athletics clinched the 1930 World Series title with a 7-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. All the signatures on this baseball have been written in black fountain pen. This red and gray stitched baseball, which displays toning due to its age, is accompanied by a LOA from PSA/DNA (U07382).
