The late Hector “Macho” Camacho was a showman through and through, as exemplified by his ostentatious and entertaining ringwear. Thankfully for Camacho, his prowess in the ring never took a backseat to his self-promotion or his garish ring attire. Camacho held three world championship titles in three different weight classes over his 30-year career, including the WBC super featherweight title from 1983-1984, the WBC lightweight title from 1985-1987, and the WBO junior welterweight title twice between 1989 and 1982. Camacho would post a record of 79 wins, 6 losses, 3 draws, with 38 of his wins coming by knockout. Camacho faced off against some of the most feared pugilists in boxing history, with fights against Julio Caesar Chavez, Felix Trinidad, and Oscar De La Hoya that have now become the stuff of boxing legend. He twice beat an aged Roberto Duran and sent Sugar Ray Leonard into permanent retirement after knocking out Leonard during their March 1st, 1997 fight. Presented here are a pair of fight worn shorts worn by the late pugilist during his days in the ring. The leather shorts are red with a white waistband and feature a white stripe encapsulating the entire trim of the shorts. “MACHO” appears across the waistband in blue leather, while a blue leather “M” appears across the bottom of the shorts. A Puerto Rican flag in blue, red, and white leather appears on the midsection on the front of the shorts. The back of the shorts feature “B.U.M. EQUIPMENT” embroidered in white on a matching red plate. The shorts display light evidence of match use and include a stain on the rear tail of the shorts, evidence of sweat on the inside waistband, and white markings on the “M” on the front of the shorts. An excellent specimen from one of boxing’s most colorful characters. This comes directly from one of Camacho’s former managers with a corresponding letter of provenance that will be included.
