Henry Larkin, John “Jocko” Milligan, and William “Yank” Robinson all played their baseball during the rough-and-tumble late 19th century, when leagues and teams sprang into being and were wiped from existence with a torrid fervor. Larkin and Milligan were both rookies for the 1884 Philadelphia Athletics of the American Association, playing together as teammates until Milligan left for the St. Louis Browns in 1888. Larkin was one of the premier sluggers of his day, twice leading the AA in doubles and accumulating a then-impressive 53 career homers. His erstwhile teammate Milligan showcased his own power hitting as well, twice reaching double-digits in home runs, which was no easy feat back in those days.

Yank Robinson was a journeyman, playing 10 seasons of pro ball for six different teams, including the Pittsburgh Burgers of the renegade Player’s League. Milligan and Larkin were defectors as well, suiting up for the Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland Indians, respectively, in the short-lived major league. Larkin and Milligan have signed the front of this album page in black fountain pen. Larking added the inscription “Reading, Pa”, while Milligan inscribed “Philadelphia Pa.” Yank Robinson signed the back of the album page, signing his name as “Wm. H. Robinson”, with the inscription “St. Louis, Mo” written in the same black pen beneath his name. This item has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (84043038).
