The 2007 season was a make-or-break season for New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. With the weight of expectations of being the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2004 and the legacy of the Manning family quarterback prestige, particularly with his Hall of Fame father Archie and older brother Peyton, the young Giants’ quarterback turned in a clutch performance during the playoffs, culminating in Super Bowl XLII when Eli and the Giants defeated the heavily-favored and previously undefeated New England Patriots. The Patriots, who were 12-point favorites entering Super Bowl XLII, were also on the verge of making NFL history in their own right in trying to become the first team to achieve a perfect 19-0 record, combining the regular season and playoffs. The Patriots were chasing the historic 1972 Miami Dolphins, who set the standard with 17-0 combined record and still remain the only undefeated team in the Super Bowl Era.

In particular, it was Manning’s fourth quarter performance in Super Bowl XLII where he took his game and the Giants to the next level. Trailing 7-3 entering the fourth quarter, Manning connected on touchdown passes to David Tyree and the winning touchdown with 35 seconds left to Plaxico Burress to secure the victory and the upset of the Patriots. On winning final drive, one of the most iconic plays took place when on a 3rd and five from their own 44-yard line, Manning eluded three would-be Patriots linemen, avoided the sack and hurled a pass down the field to Tyree, who caught the ball over Rodney Harrison, barely hanging on to the ball using his helmet to secure possession for a 32-yard gain to the Patriots’ 24-yard-line, setting up the winning touchdown pass to Burress.

Goldin Auctions is proud to offer the very New York Giants helmet Eli Manning wore during Super Bowl XLII at The University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This helmet has been photo matched by Resolution Photomatching to the Super Bowl. This blue helmet has a red stripe down the middle and the Giants’ “ny” logo in white on both sides. Manning’s number “10” is on the front of the helmet with the “1” on the left of the red stripe and the “0” on the right, all above the white padded facemask holder with a “ny” in blue and red. The Schutte facemask has two bars in front and the hard-plastic and padded chin-strap is still intact. The back of the helmet has the circular bright green communication sticker on the red stripe, with a black circular sticker with “21” in white in memory of Sean Taylor, an American Flag decal, the Super Bowl XLII logo decal and Manning’s number “10” in white separated by the red stripe. The helmet’s inner padding is still intact. This is a truly remarkable piece of NFL history and it comes with a LOA from The MeiGray Group, who have photo matched this helmet to all four quarters of Super Bowl XLII and Resolution Photomatching (425333), who have definitively matched this helmet to Super Bowl XLII.
