Among the cleat marks, stitch impressions and ball marks with blue ink transfers that mark the barrel of this bat, traces of gold scuffs on the left, right and back of the barrel mark this bat as having been used in the emotionally charged 2001 World Series. Taking place just seven weeks after the September 11th terrorist attacks, the 2001 World Series was an emotional experience for both the fans and players on the New York Yankees. After losing the first two games in Arizona, Jeter and the Yankees rose to the occasion by taking all 3 games played in New York City, the last two in thrilling extra inning victories. Due to the late starting date of the series due to the terror attacks, Game 4 was begun on the night of October 31st and as it entered extra innings, the Yankee Stadium clock passed midnight making it the first time a World Series game was played in November. With the score tied at 3, Derek Jeter became the game’s undisputed hero when he hit a game-winning home run off of Arizona’s Byung-Hyun Kim. As he circled the bases the scoreboard flashed “Mr. November”, a play on former Yankee great Reggie Jackson’s nickname of “Mr. October”. Although the Yankees eventually lost to the Diamond Backs in seven games, the spirited play of the team at home gave a much-needed boost to the morale of millions of New Yorkers. Besides being a 13 time All-Star and team captain, Derek Jeter is the Yankees’ all-time career leader in hits (3,304), games played (2,585), stolen bases (348), and at bat (10,551). His list of awards include five Gold Glove Awards, four Silver Slugger Awards, two Hank Aaron Awards, a Roberto Clemente Award, five World Series championships, and a World Series MVP award in 2000. Jeter is the all-time MLB leader in hits by a shortstop, and the 28th player to reach 3,000 hits. This 34”, 30.9oz Louisville Slugger model P72 is un-cracked and carries a heavy coat of Mota stick on the handle. The gold ink transfer from the special commemorative baseballs used in the World Series, combined with the owner of this bat’s confirmation of its acquisition at the conclusion of the 2001 Series make this a special piece of history from one of the most emotional World Series’ of all-time. Derek Jeter has signed the barrel of the bat in wonderfully contrasting silver ink between the Louisville Slugger brand mark and his imprinted endorsement. Steiner hologram on bat. Graded a PSA GU-10. Letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA and Steiner Sports COA (for autograph).
