Rap superstar Tupac Shakur starred opposite Janet Jackson in his second major role in the feature film “Poetic Justice” which was an immediate box-office smash reaching #1 in its opening weekend, grossing more than $11 million and eventually reaching a total of more than $24 million. Shakur signed this eight-page contract for his role as “Lucky” with Columbia Pictures on 5-9-1993. Shakur’s signature is in black felt tip marker above his name and is identified as Artist, Co-Writer and Co-Producer next to the signature of Warren Griffin better known as “”Warren G” who is also identified as a Co-Writer and Co-Producer. Also of note, Tupac wrote his famous song ”Definition of a Thug Nigga” specifically for this movie, which is covered/noted in this contract, and he rapped the song on the movie/soundtrack, with Warren G supplying the beats. Shakur and Griffin’s signatures also appear on double copies of Certificates of Authorship and Shakur also signed a Certificate of Recording above his Social Security number on the document’s second page, accounting for four Shakur signatures on the 16 total pages included here. The contract is accompanied by four copies of an Affidavit signed by Atron Gregory President of TNT Recordings and Management producer of Shakur’s first two albums and manager for the majority of his career. The affidavit states that the “Poetic Justice” contract originates directly from Gregory’s personal archive and all four pages have also been signed by a Notary Public. All documents are also accompanied by four JSA LOAs numbers Y20331, Y20332, Y20333 and Y20334.
