The Atlanta Braves are the oldest continuously operating professional baseball franchise in American history, founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings in 1871. In 1876, the Red Stockings were a founding member of the National League, and by 1883 the franchise was referred to as the “Beaneaters” by the press and public. The Beaneaters won eight pennants in the 19th century, winning their first World Series title in 1914.  

Offered in this lot is a complete ticket booklet from the 1903 Boston Beaneaters season. The Beaneaters, playing their home games at South End Park, finished the season with a record of 58-80, good for sixth place in the National League. The Beaneaters were led on offense by the first baseman Fred Tenney, a Massachusetts native who hit for a team-high .313 batting average in 1903. Togie Pittinger paced the pitching staff with 18 wins, while the Hall of Fame ace Vic Willis won 12 games with a sterling 2.98 ERA. This complete ticket booklet is bound in red, with gold lettering on the cover that reads “Boston Base Ball Club / Season 1903 / 104”. The name of the recipient of this booklet, Fred E. Lang, is handwritten on the inside cover in black pen. Additionally, the Beaneaters treasurer J.D. Billings has signed the inside cover in black pen. This historic ticket booklet is a fantastic relic from the oldest continuously operating professional franchise in baseball history!
