This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2017
Magnanimous on and off the field, Jackie Robinson always took the time to interact with his fans. Presented here is one such interaction, a sincere and heartfelt letter from Jackie to a fan who wrote to the Dodger second baseman. In this letter, Jackie thanks the sender for her letter, stating “I only wish I had fans such as you”. Later in the letter, Robinson thanks his fan for her insightful comments on injuries, and thanks her again for writing to him.
Robinson signed the bottom of the letter in the same blue pen he used to write the body. He signed “Sincerely/Jackie Robinson”. This signature has been graded a GEM-MT 10 by PSA/DNA. This letter also comes with its original envelope, with a stamp indicating it was sent in December of 1951. Robinson had a terrific season in 1951, hitting .338 with 88 RBI and a career-high 19 home runs. An All-Star for the third time, Robinson’s 1951 season put him one step closer to enshrinement in Cooperstown. This letter, and the envelope it was sent in, bear Robinson’s name printed in black ink and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA, who have graded this a GEM MINT 10 and a LOA from JSA (Y69671).
