Jackie Robinson 70th anniversary auction to benefit JRF ending April 29
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2017
Taking a brief hiatus from his trademark stadium scenes, the realist painter Mike Kuyper has turned to portraiture for this stirring tribute to Jackie. The intimate, bust-length rendering is based on a famous 1951 Chicago Tribune photo, while the iconic action vignette of #42 rounding first originates from a 1956 image by LIFE photographer George Silk. Measuring 12 x 24 inches, this is the sort of dazzling creation that must be seen first-hand for full appreciation of its masterful attention to detail. As a point of reference, it's important to note that Kuyper last sold a baseball painting with us in our August 2016 Live Auction, when his 2008 Phillies Championship Celebration artwork (titled "Phinally!") reached nearly $10,000.
