Only a handful of single-signed Joe McCarthy baseballs are in existence and this offered baseball might be the finest ever presented for sale. McCarthy signed his name in bold black pen across the sweet spot of this Official American League Lee MacPhail baseball. The baseball only displays slight toning and the blue stampings on this ball are crisp. This ball can be dated between 1974 and 1978 based on the “MacPhail” stamp and McCarthy passing away in 1978, making this most likely one of the last items signed by the legendary manager.
The Hall of Fame manager McCarthy was most notable for his time with the New York Yankees. McCarthy would win six World Series titles with the Yankees, including four in a row from 1936-1939. His winning percentages would be the highest in Major League history, with his 2,125 career victories ranking 8th in all-time managerial wins. However, he ranks first in Yankee’s history with 1,460 victories. This single-signed baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AE05262), who have graded McCarthy’s signature a 7 and the baseball and overall grade of NM-MT 8.
