National Lampoon hit a tape-measure home run in 1978 with their seminal cinematic masterclass National Lampoon’s Animal House, a riotous farce directed by John Landis and starring myriad groundbreaking actors, including John Belushi as the uncouth John “Bluto” Blutarsky, a hard-partying layabout and future United States senator. Produced on a shoe-string budget of $3 million and featuring the writing of Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenny, and Chris Miller, Animal House grossed an incredible $141 at the box office and became an instant-classic. Belushi’s Bluto was the runaway star of the film, propelling the Saturday Night Live cast member to stratospheric celebrity heights with his vendetta against John Vernon’s supercilious Dean Vernon Wormer at the fictional Faber College.

Offered in this lot is a spectacular soft-cover illustrated novel of National Lampoon’s Animal House. This item, written by Chris Miller, features full-color illustrations from the hit film, with the cover of the novel imitating the iconic Animal House movie poster. This first-edition book has been signed on the dedication page in red pen by the star of the film, John Belushi, below a portrait of Bluto raising a pitcher of beer in acknowledgement of the reader. This historic soft-cover novel comes with a LOA from JSA to authenticate Belushi’s signature (Y93679).
