“Eight Men Out” is a beloved baseball film that tells the dramatized story of the 1919 “Black Sox” Scandal, where eight members of the Chicago White Sox (allegedly) received bribes in exchange for intentionally losing the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. This scandal threatened to rip apart baseball, which was experiencing growing pains during the early days of the 20^th century. Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the first Commissioner of baseball, reacted strongly to the scandal by banning all eight participants, which included some of the game’s best players, for life. This action, along with the towering home runs of Babe Ruth, helped baseball transition into the game it is today.

 This replica 1919 White Sox jersey is signed by John Cusack, who portrayed third baseman Buck Weaver in the film. Weaver, along with Shoeless Joe Jackson, were the two Black Sox whose banishment is most controversial. Weaver hit .324 in the World Series and played errorless defense, lending to his continued claims of innocence. This jersey is a white, pinstriped, button down jersey with three quarters length sleeves. “SOX” is sewn on the left breast in black tackle twill.
