Presented is a black and white photograph of legendary pop icon Josephine Baker. Born in St. Louis Missouri, Baker was a dancer and entertainer who rose to prominence in France after her series of (at the time) provocative and explicit dances. Baker would continue to entertain by starring in several French films, and even pursuing a music career. She became an icon of sorts during the 1930’s and 1940’s and was seen as a reflection of the rise of the feminism movements. This picture portrays a young Baker, posed and fully clothed in a long dress. She can be seen with her infamous smile, as her right arm is touching her shoulder. Baker has autographed the lower left of this piece in light black ink, and has inscribed the words “best wishes”. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A07574).
