Julio Cesar Chavez fought in 115 career fights and had a 107-6-2 record over a 25-year career and is considered the greatest fighter to come out of Mexico and one of the best boxers of all-time. On May 13, 1989 Chavez came into the title fight as Lightweight champion against the reigning WBC Welterweight champion Roger Mayweather. This was the second bout between the two as Chavez defeated Mayweather in July of 1985 in a second round TKO. This fight was much more competitive, but ultimately, Chavez would go on and defeat Mayweather again, when Mayweather did not come out for the 11th round. Chavez improved his record at that time to a whopping 61-0 mark.

This is the actual World Boxing Council Light Welterweight Championship belt that was presented to Chavez for defeating Mayweather on May 13, 1989 at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. The belt’s centerpiece is a gold plated oval shaped crest with “WORLD CHAMPION” arched across the top in green and “W.B.C.” in black with a cast figure boxer holding his arm up in victory standing between the two hemispheres. The centerpiece is surrounded by 79 flags from countries around the world and 10 additional flags are represented surrounding the boxer. The centerpiece crest and side plaques are adhered to the green leather belt that fastens with an adjustable gold buckle. On the sides of the centerpiece contains the individual raised images of Muhammad Ali (left) and Joe Louis (right). Both individual images have “WORLD BOXING COUNCIL” arched across the top in gold and connect to the centerpiece with two gold chains. The belt shows heavy wear with wrinkles in the leather and a round folds where the belt would wrap around the waist. This piece of heavyweight boxing history comes with a full LOA from Julio Cesar Chavez.
