For Hall of Famer and NBA all-time leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, there were two iconic things he was known for – the patented “Skyhook” and his trademark goggles. Suffering a scratched cornea in January of 1968 against Cal and getting his eye scratched in a pre-season game in 1974 was enough for the center to don a pair of protective goggles, which he wore for the remainder of his career after joining the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975. Kareem’s goggles were such a part of him that his character in the 1980 comedy classic Airplane! saw his pilot character “Roger Murdoch” being carried down the aisle unconscious in his pilot’s shirt, Lakers’ shorts and sneakers, and of course, his goggles.

Offered is a pair of the iconic protective goggles worn by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar during his career. These goggles were manufactured by Herslof and feature the round clear plastic lenses. They are centered by a light-colored rubber nose and bridge piece and have a dark blue expandable strap connected to both sides of the plastic lenses. On the blue strap “herslof” is in white on four separate areas. The goggles display extensive wear and they are a terrific collectible indelibly tied to one of basketball’s greatest players. This item comes directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem accompanies this item.
