The matchup between De Matha Catholic High School and Power Memorial Academy in 1965 was heralded as one of the greatest high school basketball games of the 20th century. Power, led by their seven-foot talisman Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (then known as Lew Alcindor), traveled to College Park, Maryland, to battle the mighty De Matha Stags. Power had won their previous meeting and came into the game riding a spectacular 71-game winning streak. But De Matha, who started and played only five players, emerged the 46-43 victors, despite Abdul-Jabbar’s 16 points and 14 boards. The game was attended by approximately 14,000 fans, and more than 50 years later still stands the test of time as one of America’s greatest sporting events. Offered here is a souvenir program to the De Matha-Power contest signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabbar has signed this program on the cover in black marker. It is accompanied by a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
