Presented here is an original print of Neil Leifer’s iconic photograph of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and John Wooden. Abdul-Jabbar, then a UCLA freshman known as Lew Alcindor, is pictured in his UCLA home whites next to the stoic Wooden. The photograph is framed by images of basketball plays. This shot, taken in 1965 before Abdul-Jabbar debuted for the UCLA varsity squad, is notable as it provided an introduction to the country outside of Los Angeles and New York of the future UCLA basketball dynasty. Along the bottom border of this stunning color photograph, Leifer has written “For Kareem, with coach John Wooden UCLA Westwood, C.A. Nov. 1965 With Many Fond Memories”. In addition, Leifer has signed his name in black marker. Abdul-Jabbar has signed the photograph in fine-tip silver marker. This photograph measures 15.5 x 17.5 inches and comes in a 24 x 24-inch frame. It is accompanied by a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
