A five-time All-Star first baseman who led the New York Mets to a World Series title in 1986, Keith Hernandez continues to be revered in the Big Apple now serving as a television analyst for the team. This Metropolitan Life Met of the Month award was issued to Hernandez in May 1986. The award comes in the form of a 17 ¼ x 11 ¾ -inch piece of silver stainless steel Jean Couzon of France flatware. Etched on the face of the silver plate over six lines are “Metropolitan Life,” “MET LIFE,” “MET OF THE MONTH,” “PRESENTED TO,” “KEITH HERNANDEZ” and “SEPTEMBER 1986.” The underside of the plate features a Jean Couzon manufacturer’s marking. The dish shows some minor surface scratching, but is in otherwise outstanding condition. The Play of the Month award comes with an LOA from Keith Hernandez.
