A five-time All-Star first baseman who led the New York Mets to a World Series title in 1986, Keith Hernandez continues to be revered in the Big Apple now serving as a television analyst for the team. This Metropolitan Life Play of the Month award was issued to Hernandez in September 1986. The award comes in the form of a 17 ¼ x 11 ¾ -inch piece of silver stainless steel Jean Couzon of France flatware. Etched on the face of the silver plate over five lines are “Metropolitan Life,” “MET LIFE,” “PLAY OF THE MONTH,” “KEITH HERNANDEZ” and “SEPTEMBER 1986.” The underside of the plate features a Jean Couzon manufacturer’s marking along with a sticker from “AD MANUFACTURING CORP.” of Bellerose, N.Y. The dish shows some minor surface scratching, but is in otherwise outstanding condition. The Play of the Month award comes with an LOA from Keith Hernandez.
