Lee Smith wore this Cubs road jersey during his eight season tenure with the Chicago ballclub. Smith debuted in 1980, pitching for Cubs until he joined the Red Sox in 1988. Armed with a nasty heater and cutting slider, Smith became one of the first ninth inning relief specialists, tallying an (at the time) MLB record 478 saves at the time of his retirement.
This jersey is a blue, pullover Cubs jersey with the Cubs “C” logo sewn on the front left breast. “SMITH” and his number “46” are sewn on the back of the jersey in red and white tackle twill. A different circular Cubs logo is sewn on the left sleeve. A Wilson size “46” tag is sewn on the back inside collar. Red and white bands ring the sleeve and collar openings. The strip tag that would normally be found on the collar and the two-digit year tag that would have been located on the bottom front tail have been removed. This jersey comes with a LOA from Lee Smith.
