This extremely rare Derek Jeter bat is desirable for two major reasons. First, it is from his 1996 rookie season, one which saw Jeter claim the Rookie of the Year award when he helped lead the Yankees to their first World Series Championship in 20 years. Second, this is an extremely rare Adirondack Jeter model bat – the first we have ever seen! It is well known Jeter has exclusively used Louisville Slugger P72 model bats throughout his storied Hall of Fame career. However, early in his rookie season, Jeter was still experimenting with use of several other well known manufacturers’ bats, such as this Rawlings Adirondack 33-5/8 inch, 29.6 ounce rookie year bat. This un-cracked bat has his name “DEREK JETER” and team name “YANKEES” printed on the barrel. It exhibits excellent use with several large ball marks, including blue ink “lift” marks and white leather scuffs, and stitch impressions visible on all sides of the barrel. There are cleat marks witnessed on the right and back barrel, with a light coat of Mota Stick on the handle. On the knob is stamped with the model number (225S), order number (377) and year (96). Based upon the factory ordering records, and player use characteristics, this bat was ordered and used by Jeter during his rookie season. This is one of the rarest Jeter bats in existence, deriving from his tremendous rookie of the year season of 1996, but is one of the few (if not the only) Adirondack game used Derek Jeter bat in the hobby. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number 1B08037.
