Lucky for John (Doc) Lavan, the Philadelphia Athletics purchased his contract from the St. Louis Browns. Lucky because Lavan went from the cellar dweller Browns, to the first place Athletics, who eventually won the 1913 World Series in five games over the New York Giants. Although Lavan only had 14 at bats for the A’s that year (hitting a measly .071), he was awarded this ring for his team effort. Most of the awarded championship items from the early days were watches or pins, but some players decided to order rings, or had rings made for them. The diminutive size 8.5/13.5 gram gold ring has a 35 point Swiss cut diamond on the face within a baseball themed motif. Surrounding the face is “WORLD CHAMPIONS 1913”. No other intangibles are on of inside this early World Series gem. Light to moderate wear is evidenced, but all detailed aspects of the ring remain proudly visible. Excellent to Mint condition.
