During the height of his two-term Presidency, Ronald Reagan was presented with this Detroit Tigers jersey. Typical of teams which visit the White House, Reagan’s name is felted across the back and his jersey is affixed with the number “7”. However, this is not just any old replica jersey, but an actual 1986 Detroit Tigers jersey, which has the original tags, and the original name and number on the back removed and replaced with the Gipper’s. Clearly visible on the reverse is the removed name “SCHERER” and the number “17”. Bill Scherer was a left handed pitcher who appeared in 13 games for those 1986 Tigers. On the front are the original tags including a “Wilson” manufacturers tag, with size “42” flag tag, and two white strip tags stitched with the year “86” and set number “1” on one, and the number “17” on the second. Just below the old fashioned “D” is signed and inscribed by the President “Best Wishes to CATCH and all love goes to the children Nancy + Ronald Reagan.” CATCH is a children's charity in Michigan that was founded by Sparky Anderson when he was managing the Tigers. The signatures and inscription is in black marker. This is an extremely unique jersey, presented to the President of the United States during his second term in office, then signed, inscribed and presented to an important charity. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number U0464.
