Many times when an auction house sells an item for a large sum on an extremely scarce item, that very high price brings in another example. That is the case with this Derek Jeter Game Used glove. When we sold a Derek Jeter game used glove in our July 2013 auction, the final price was 24 times the initial bid of $2,000. This glove, however, is more significant as it derives from the 1999 season, one which saw Jeter lead the New York Yankees to another World Series championship. The glove is the rare "Yankee pinstripe" model used by Jeter only during the Yankee three peat years of 1998-1999. In fact on our website is an image of Jeter wearing this exact model glove on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The glove includes the wristband that Jeter kept inside the glove while playing. Jeter is one of those rare players who can beat you two ways - with his bat and with his glove. While his clutch hitting may grab all the headlines, with that Mr. November home run in the 2001 World Series being the topper, Jeter’s five Gold Glove Awards at shortstop attest to the level of play that helped the Yankees win five World Series championships. And who can forget the great dive into the stands during the Boston Red Sox game, or “The Flip” in the 2001 ALDS against the Oakland A’s? Jeter has proven he can win on both sides of the ball. This Rawlings Pro-5XBCB glove shows nice game use with the graphics being mostly worn away in the palm and various light dirt and scuff marks. There is ample wear along the finger tips and on the back of the fingers commensurate with fielding tons of ground balls. The pocket is well worn, but the leather remains very pliable. The glove has been factory personalized with “Derek Jeter” embroidered in white on the outside of the thumb. Jeter has signed the outer pinkie in silver ink which contrasts nicely with the glove’s navy blue leather. A great piece of game used equipment from a possible first ever unanimous choice for first ballot Hall of Famer. Derek Jeter fielding gloves are virtually unseen. . PSA/DNA has dated this glove to the 1999 season, making it of even greater significance as that was another World Series sweep for the potent Yankee dynasty. Steiner hologram sticker is affixed to the glove. Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA, cert number 1G00166, for Game Used glove use.
