As the game’s greatest fireball in baseball history, Nolan Ryan has set many records and created the standard which all other power pitchers are compared. The Ryan Express made it home to his native Texas when he began to pitch for the Houston Astros beginning in 1980. This jersey and pants combination was worn by Ryan during the 1988 Astros season. The white pullover knit jersey has “Astros” across the front with the Texas star below, with his name “RYAN” across the back on a white nameplate and his immortal number “34” below. All are in blue on white tackle twill except for his name which is all blue. The lower front tail features the “W.A.Goodman & Sons 44” manufacturers wash tag, the Astros supplier during that time period. Each shoulder/sleeve features the Astros rainbow “cut ins”, which make the Astros jersey from this period some of the most desirable knit jerseys. The pants have the two button clasp design, with elastic waist and blue piping. With the waist is the “W.A.Goodman & Sons 34” manufacturers wash tag along with a white strip tag with “RYAN 34-25 ’88 SET B” stitched on in black thread. Both jersey and pants exhibit moderate wear with just minimal fraying to the stitching, number and letters. This is an outstanding Nolan Ryan uniform with the Astros design so popular and desired by the collecting public. Full LOA from MEARS, graded A10.
