During the 1936 season, his first as a Boston Red Sox player, Jimmie Foxx was an absolute Beast, clubbing 41 home runs, driving in 143 runners, while hitting .338 (198 hits), and accumulating 105 bases on balls. Unbelievably, Foxx only came in 11th in the MVP voting! Tough crowd! This 35 inch, 36.4 ounce dark brown toned H&B Louisville Slugger bat has the “Jimmie Foxx” scripted signature burned into the barrel with the word “GENUINE” above and “REG. U.S. PAT. OFF” below. The center brand features the 1934-44 label with the word “Powerized” to the right. Tremendous amount of game use is exhibited, with ball, stitch and cleat marks plus a four inch crack on the upper handle. Some moderate deadwood (separation of grain) appears on the barrel, but interestingly, is on the front of the barrel rather than the back. Although manufactured during an 11 year period, we know this bat is from 1936 with a black grease pencil side written note of “Gerald Walker 10-19-36” on one side with “Gerald Walker 10-19-36 Detroit Amer League” on the other side. These notes were written by an employee of H&B when the bat was returned to them by Walker, who wanted to order this specific bat for his own use. Both the knob and top of the barrel have been stamped with “W36” indicating an internal H&B code for Walker and lathe turn number. The Red Sox played Detroit on Sept 15 and 16th, and considering the bat was sent to Louisville in October 1936, it is likely the bat was given to Walker during that series and used by Foxx until that time. While this bat was returned to H&B by Walker for similar examples for his personal use, this bat was owned and used by Jimmie Foxx, and used during his tremendous 1936 season. Full LOA for MEARS, graded A-9. Also, a FULL LOA from SCD Authentic (also signed by Troy Kinunen), and an original typed and signed letter from Michael Montbriand, a highly recognized long time game used bat collector who once owned this bat in his personal, private collection.
