When she wasn’t busy being one of the scariest people of all time, inflicting permanent trauma on generation after generation of boys and girls as the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 classic film the Wizard of Oz; Margaret Hamilton was actually a very friendly former school teacher. She devoted her life to advocating causes designed to benefit children and animals, and continued her lifelong commitment to public education as a Sunday school teacher throughput the 1950’s and served on the Beverly Hills Board of Education from 1948-1951. In the 1970’s she played Cora the owner of a general store in a series of television commercials for Maxwell House coffee. Hamilton is seen in this 8” x 10” black and white promotional photo for the Wizard of Oz as the Wicked Witch of the West lurking behind a tree as Dorothy and the Scarecrow are making their way along the Yellow Brick Road. Hamilton signed the photo in black felt marker with the following inscription: “To the newsreel ruckus - best witch wishes - Margaret Hamilton + WWW.” Photo comes with PSA/DNA LOA.
