Graded NM 7 by PSA. Hall of Famer, and the condition-sensitive "First Card" in its set. Rookie Card. Among more than 1,600 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, fewer than four percent have attained a higher, unqualified tier. This is the rookie card of an esteemed Yankees great, released just prior to his two-year hitch in the Army: Ford would not return to baseball (or cardboard) until 1953. Whitey's 9-1 record, accomplished during his first season in 1950, merited the "Number 1 card" position of honor in Bowman's 1951 offering. That circumstance of placement also ensured a dearth of high-grade examples for modern collectors seeking to fill sets. The exceptional, offered specimen of this key item will satisfy even the most stringent requirements for condition and appearance. The piece's corners culminate in sharply defined points. Its colors are superb and the back is brightly printed with a few spots of wrapper-wax toning. A perennially challenging milestone from the early '50's, in very sharp Near Mint condition.
