One of the most respected catchers of the post-war period, the sheer joy Gary Carter’ received from playing baseball earned him the nickname “The Kid”. One of the most popular players in Met history, Carter was the strong voice of reason and captain of the late 1980’s New York Mets teams. He was a two time All Star Game MVP twice and made the All-Star team 11 times and his Clemente Award attests to the man’s exemplary character. Carter helped guide the 1986 team to the World Series where his clutch single was instrumental in winning the fabled “Game 6”. This MacGregor PC23/33" catcher's mitt dates from the 1986-87 seasons and has been photo matched to a photo taken of Carter conferring with Doc Gooden on the mound in Game 2. The mitt shows outstanding game use including two tears in the web crotch. The outer edge of the mitt shows the scuffing expected from that of a Hall of Fame catcher and all the raw hide lacing is intact. Pine tar traces are evident and the pocket is well-oiled. "GARY CARTER" is stamped in the heel of the palm above witch the Hall of Famer signed his name in black ink adding "1986 + 87 GAME GLOVE". It's stunning to think that this glove not only caught Dwight Gooden in his prime but also was used during the most exciting World Series in recent memory. The Kid was elected to Cooperstown in 2003 only to tragically pass away in 2012. This Hall of Fame-worthy glove is a true piece of World Series history. Letter of Authenticity (1G00171) from PSA/DNA.
