Just 3 weeks prior to his pivotal Cooper Union speech and 3 months before his nomination for President, Abraham Lincoln used this check to purchase a stove for Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln. This partly-printed check was filled out in Lincoln's hand to Elie Kreigh, a well-known stove and hat dealer, for $3.70. The check measures 7" by 2-1/4" and was drawn on the Springfield Marine & Fire Insurance Company. The overall condition is excellent with a slit cancellation that barely affects "c" in Lincoln, two small punch cancellations, a few minor contemporary ink smudges, extremely light soiling and a light vertical crease. The check has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
