I In 1967, a disillusioned Frank Sinatra told Paul Anka he was ready to throw in the towel: “Kid, I’m fed up, I’m going to do one more album and I’m out of here.” But then Ol’ Blue Eyes cheered up, recalling Anka’s long-ago promise to pen a tune exclusively for him. “You never wrote me that song,” he teased. “Don’t take too long!” So back in New York on a stormy night, Paul put himself in Frank’s shoes and wrote the haunting anthem that would define both Sinatra’s career and the Postwar Generation. Now, Daniel Duffy has used the “My Way” lyrics—and nothing but those lyrics—to render the Chairman of the Board in all his glory. By varying the thickness and boldness of the meticulously arranged letters, Duffy has done it his way. The ingenious rendering appears on textured foamboard and is signed by the artist in pencil. Bio: Rarely do sports artists emerge who blaze a new trail and reinvent what’s possible, yet Daniel Duffy has been doing just that for over five years with his extraordinary Word Art creations. The Philadelphia-based innovator uses text, numbers, dates, game logs and statistics for his original pen-and-ink portraits of athletes and historical figures. Duffy has sold more than 10,000 prints at public appearances, at the Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park. Duffy’s Bryce Harper artwork was featured in a Gatorade commercial, he also was the honored guest for a multi-day live art performance at the TED2014 conference in Vancouver where his subjects included Bill Gates.
