Nicknamed "Pig," Frank House had a 10-year MLB career as a catcher and played with the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. As a catcher, in 580 games he compiled a .988 fielding percentage with 2934 putouts, 258 assists, and only 34 errors in 2934 total chances. He presumably earned his nickname as a baby, when his family used to say he was "big as a house" and he twisted "big" into "pig". After baseball, House later served in the Alabama Legislature, where he was instrumental in the creation of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1967. He was inducted into the Alabama Hall of Fame in 1975 and was honored in 2004 when the Hall implemented the Frank "Pig" House Award to recognize contributors to state sports.
This M159 Hillerich & Bradsby model is from the 1961-63 label period. It is 34.5 inches and weighs 30 ounces, matching the Louisville Slugger ordering records. As per the PSA/DNA LOA that accompanies the bat, it is “Un-cracked with evidence of excellent use.” Fine example of an early 1960s H&B gamer.
