Former player and coach, Davey Johnson, was asked to coach The Netherlands baseball team in the 2004 Summer Olympics, in Athens Greece. Original coach Robert Eenhoorn, a former New York Yankees middle infielder had to step down briefly as his young son was battling kidney cancer and Johnson was asked to step in. Johnson, who was busy enjoying retirement at the time and who had never been to The Netherlands before, joined the team to support Eenhoorn. Johnson is known in baseball circles as being a man who cares about his players, baseball and people. Johnson worked out the players and they adapted quickly as Eenhoorn had assembled a strong roster of players who knew the game. After a few promising wins, The Nederlands not being able to keep their momentum going, finished sixth in the final standings. Johnson’s signature is signed in blue ink on the front of these pants with “Game Used” inscribed below his name. His signature also appears on the back of the jersey in silver ink on the numbers, inscribed underneath is “Game Used 2004.” PSA/DNA Pre-Certified.
