Hall of Fame slugger Jimmie “The Beast” Foxx toiled for “The Tall Tactician,” Connie Mack and the impressive Philadelphia Athletics teams from 1925-1935, including the three consecutive American League pennant wining clubs of 1929-1931 and back-to-back World Series champion teams of 1929-1930. Also known as “Double X,” Foxx racked up 302 of his 534 career home runs during his 11 seasons under Mr. Mack in Philadelphia, leading the American League four times during his stellar 20-year career. Foxx hit a staggering career-high 58 home runs in 1932 and captured the American League Triple Crown award in 1933. A three-time MVP, Foxx was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1951 and the Jimmy Dugan character portrayed by Tom Hanks in the movie A League of Their Own is loosely based in Foxx who managed the Fort Wayne Daisies of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1952. Cornelius McGillicuddy Sr., “Connie Mack,” is the longest serving manager in major league history captaining the Athletics from 1901-1950 and eventually became the majority shareholder of the club. Mack still holds the major league records with 3,731 wins, 3,948 losses and 7,755 games managed, exceeding the next closest manager (John McGraw) by more than 1,000 wins. This National Brand, National League rubber center ball is signed by Mack in blue ball point ink on its sweet spot and by Foxx in black ball point ink on the nearest side panel as well as Athletics outfielder “Indian Bob” Johnson (One of a handful of native American born big leaguers and seven time all-star who hit .296 with 2,051 hits in 13 American League seasons) in fading blue ink just below Foxx. Mack’s signature rates a solid 9-10, while Foxx’s is almost equally prominent grading 8. Blue and red stitched ball is in excellent condition with an even distribution of gray tones. The ball also contains the remnants of two fading Lefty Grove signatures and one from Jim Peterson. Includes PSA/DNA LOA
