Once the best player in the National League, by 1994 Davis' career was derailed by injuries. Using the same grit and determination that made him a star on the field, Eric Davis battled back a year later and rejoined the majors. Less than a year later his career was again dealt a devastating blow, this time colon cancer. Refusing to give up, Davis beat the cancer and had the best year of his career, thus earning him the 1998 ESPN Comeback of the year award. This foot tall crystal award is mounted on a base engraved with "1998 Comeback Athlete of the Year Eric Davis". A hefty tribute to Eric Davis' insurmountable determination and drive.
