Although she'd been in show business since she was 2 years-old, it was her performance as Dorothy in 1939's "The Wizard of Oz" that propelled her to stardom. She then starred alongside Andy Rooney and Gene Kelly as her fame and popularity with the fans continued to grow. This 3 1/4" x 5" card allows News Syndicate, Inc of New York to use the starlet's image to advertise their services. Dated July 15, 1943, this card dates from the period just before Garland achieved her greatest success - 1944's "Meet Me In St. Louis". This would prove to be the height of her career as the crushing pressure of fame quickly took a toll on the actress and she descended into the alcohol and prescription drug abuse that would tragically take her life. Due to her early death at the age of 47, Garland's signature is not very common ad to find one dating from the penultimate moment of her career is truly a find. Since this piece was signed and safely filed away Garland's black fountain pen signature has survived in very fine condition. Letter of Authenticity V05871 from PSA/DNA.
