This Sportsman’s Park program from the 1943 World Series played between the
St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees features an American flag hanging steadfast in all of her glory on the front cover. Inside are numerous black & white photographs of players from both teams along with short player biographies. The scorecard is not filled out and is accompanied by an advertisement from Coca-Cola asking fans to, “Have a Coke = the seventh-inning stretch.” Also, inside the front cover is an advertisement from Alpen Brau Beer company mocking Hitler by stating, “Victory is in the Cards but not for you, Adolph!” as this series was played during WWII. This series was the first in which a World Series highlight film was made as gifts to the troops fighting in the war, as a way for them to have a little piece of home, and this is a tradition that still continues to this day. The Yankees would go on to defeat the Cardinals 4 games to 1 to win the 1943 World Series. The program is in excellent overall condition.
