Though nobody “owned” the New York Yankees on the field, the publically-traded organization gave individuals a chance to purchase shares of the storied franchise. This stock certificate, issued by the “American League Base-Ball (sic) Club of New York (Inc.)” is certificate number 33, and represents 23 3/8 shares, issued to an “Anna C.A. Twomey” on March 8, 1934. It is signed in flowing black steel tip ballpoint pen by both General Manager Ed Barrow (HoF 1953) and Team Owner Jacob Ruppert (HoF 2013). The document includes the raised corporate seal of the baseball team, and has folds likely from mailing, along with several staple marks. Written in the top right corner by an unknown hand is “Surrendered for cancellation, June 8, 1938. Certificate #34 issued in its stead.” The 11.5x8.75” paper certificate comes with full LOA from JSA.
