In 1962, the expansion New York Metropolitan Baseball Club took the field for the first time, as National League fans from the Big Apple tried to fill the void left by their beloved Dodgers and Giants. This lot is the Mets’ media guide from that inaugural season, and features cover images of Manager Casey Stengel and an artist’s rendition of “Flushing Meadows Stadium,” which eventually opened in 1964 as Shea Stadium. The guide is 18 pages plus cover, and features a novel fold-out centerfold roster. Also included is one “floater” page that includes minor league players participating in spring training that season. There are some minor pen marks on the roster page, a tear at the bottom of the cover and some creasing on the pages, but it is completely intact and in surprisingly good condition. This rare find is a must for any fan of the “Amazins.”
