The Dodgers first baseman was one of the true superstars of the early 1970’s. Beginning in 1974 Garvey recorded six consecutive seasons of 200 hits or more – a feat only 6 other men in the history of the game have equaled. The fan’s respect for Garvey was evident when he was voted to start the 1974 All-Star Game even though his name was not on the ballot. He responded by being named the game’s MVP. His .312 with 21 home runs earned him the 1974 National League MVP Award and this great piece of lumber dates to that spectacular season. The Hillerich & Bradsby C263 bat shows excellent use with a handle crack and checking from repeated contact. Several ball marks and stitch impressions are seen and a heavy coat of pine tar is still evident on the handle. The model number “C263” is stamped into the knob end over which Garvey’s number “6” is hand written in black marker. The Dodgers star has signed the bat’s barrel in back adding “1974 NL MVP”. A superb bat dating from Garvey’s MVP season. Letter of Authenticity 1B09130 from PSA/DNA.
