Willie McCovey used this bat during his triumphant return to San Francisco. McCovey started the season with 465 career home runs, the most of any active player at the time. Though he was 39, McCovey played like a man 15 years younger, hitting 28 homers including one monster game in which he smacked two in the same inning! He was the National League’s Comeback Player of the Year and ended the season just seven homers shy of the 500 mark. Company records show McCovey ordered this Hillerich & Bradsby M110L in August of 1977. It shows excellent use with a handle crack and small chip on the knob. Slight checking from repeated ball contact is visible on the barrel along with several ball marks with stitch impressions. A light coat of pine tar is on the handle and McCovey’s number “44” is hand written on the knob end in black marker. The Hall of Famer has signed the barrel in blue marker making this a truly unique gamer. Letter of Authenticity 1B01517 and U69434 from PSA/DNA.
