Among the first group of baseball’s pioneering African American players signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers, Roy Campanella was already a star catcher in with the Negro Leagues Baltimore Elite Giants for 10 years before making his major league debut in 1948. A three-time National League MVP (1951, 1953 and 1955) and eight-time All-Star, despite the relative brevity of his big league career, (10 years) which was tragically cut short when he was left paralyzed from a car accident, he is still considered to be one of the greatest catchers of all-time. Campanella signed this Rawlings/Adirondack Dodgers Centennial (1890-1990) commemorative bat in bold blue sharpie with his machine assisted signature above a wood-burned engraving reading: “Dodgers Centennial (1890-1990) Six-Time World Champions 1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, 1988, 21 National League Pennants Brooklyn, New York (1890-1957) Los Angeles (1958-Present). Limited edition bat (391 of 500) has Dodgers 100 Anniversary and MLB logos at opposite ends of the barrel engraving and is in pristine like-new condition; comes with PSA/DNA certification #X00469.
