This 1937 yearbook from Pasadena Junior College entitled Campus features future Hall of Fame Brooklyn Dodgers Second Baseman Jackie Robinson. A short summary along with a photo of the varsity baseball team appears on p.69, which mentions Robinson, “Shortstop Jack Robinson, Tech transfer, handling the situation ably.” A photo of Jackie Robinson appears at the top of p.70 and lists him as a shortstop. Robinson would go on to break the color barrier in baseball to become the first African American to play for a professional MLB club. In 1947 his first year in the league he was awarded Rookie of the Year honors, followed by MVP honors in 1949. Robinson was a man of great talent and even higher character, who helped bridge the national divide when it came to race. His number “42” is the only number retired by all MLB teams.
