President Ronald Reagan famously spoke the words, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” as he demanded that Gorbachev, the leader of the Soviet Union take down the Berlin wall which separated East and West Germany. The wall came down and Reagan helped to oversee the end of the Cold War. This typed letter is signed, “Dutch” by Ronald Reagan, and was written to the window of a friend Mrs. Peter MacArthur, apologizing and explaining why she did not receive a Christmas card from the Reagan family. Reagan says, “I’m so sorry you were disappointed by not hearing from us during the Christmas holidays. Nancy and I decided to go back to our private citizen days and not send out Christmas cards since we do keep in touch with most of our friends throughout the year.” This letter dated, “January 10, 1990,” measures 6.5” x 8.5” and its letterhead features the presidential seal at the top center. Included is the original typed letter sent to Reagan from Mrs. Peter MacArthur and the envelope that Reagan mailed his letter to her in. Item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
